Describe the worship service you attended. How was it similar to or different from your regular context?
This service at Hanmee Presbyterian Church was a Korean-American service at the church Jubilee Chapel in Itasca IL. I worshiped with a relatively small congregation of people consisting of people ages 17-30. The pastor's name was Michael. The pastor had an amazing sermon, and the worship songs and sermon were all in English. Similarities of this church to the church I mainly attend is that Jubilee and my church both have services at 11:00, include various ages of the people, have a worship time led by a group of people who sing and play instruments such as guitar, and give a sermon that lasts about half the service's time span.
What did you find most interesting or appealing about the worship service?
I found the leadership (worship leaders and pastor) to impart or reflect their posture of determination and reverence to God. The people who were there were receptive to the pastor's words in the sermon.
What did you find most disorienting or challenging about the worship service?
There was little that I was challenged by except that I was in a new church and the congregation was unfamiliar to me.
What aspects of Scripture or theology did the worship service illuminate for you that you had not percieved as clearly in your regular context?
The sermon on the 10 plagues of Egypt was very engaging, encouraging, worship, and Biblical. By Biblical, I mean the pastor continually directed our minds towards Scriptural passages. We learned a lot about the plagues and how they were God's sovereign demonstration.
